Investing in anti-subjective poetic modes, such as Flarf and Fluxus and other experimentations with generated text, requires a different sort of conscience, though likewise operates through a decentralisation of the human subject. Conversely, on these terms Alt.Lit can seem to have little conscience at all, as it valorises the poet as subject.

Deleted Darlings is a semi-regular series in which I share segments of writing that never made it to the final draft. We’ve all been told to kill our darlings, but no one learned anything from writing they never got to read, right?
